We used the Records Archive Programme after my mother-in-law passed and we realised how little we knew about her affairs. Working with Heronwood was the most useful thing we did in those first few months. The family briefing document they produced saved an enormous amount of confusion when we needed to locate documents for the estate process.

I did the Personal Inventory Session on my own, mostly to get a clearer picture of what I have. It took about two and a half hours and the session moved at exactly the pace I wanted. I left with a printed inventory that I have since shared with my adult daughter. The one thing I would say is that the printed materials are quite dense — there is a lot in them, which is useful, but it took me a little time to read through everything.

My wife and I did the Family Conversation Series together. We had been putting off this kind of conversation for years — it always felt like there would be a better moment. The sessions gave us a framework that made talking through things much less loaded than we expected. We came away with something our son can use when the time comes. I would recommend it without hesitation.

I came to Heronwood because I wanted my daughter, who lives in London, to be able to understand my affairs if anything happened to me. The Records Archive Programme gave her a document she can follow clearly. The team were patient throughout and never made me feel that I was being rushed or that my questions were not worth asking.

Good, calm service. The Personal Inventory Session was exactly what it said it was — no more, no less. I went in with a vague sense that my papers were in reasonable order and came out knowing exactly what I had and where it was. For the price I thought it was good value. Would use them again if I take on the fuller archive programme.

Our family used the Family Conversation Series across three sessions. My husband and I, and our two adult children joined the final session. Patchara was very helpful in keeping us focused when we started going off on tangents. The guides are well written and the bilingual option was important for us — some of the older documents are in Thai only and it helped to have that support.

A closer look at some client journeys

Case Study · Records Archive Programme

The challenge

A retired British couple living in Chiang Mai had accumulated documents across two decades — property records, bank accounts, insurance policies, pension correspondence — spread across binders, drawers, and digital folders their children could not access. Their daughter in the UK had no idea what they held or how to begin sorting things out if needed.

What we did

Over five weeks, we worked through the household's documents at the couple's home, categorising and labelling everything clearly. We produced a full home filing layout, a plain-language summary of each document type, and a family briefing document written specifically for the UK-based daughter to understand the scope and location of every key record.

What changed

The couple described feeling a noticeable sense of relief after the programme. Their daughter received the briefing document and reported that it answered almost every question she had been carrying quietly for years. The filing layout remained in use eighteen months later and had been updated once by the couple independently.

"It was five years of putting it off, done in five weeks. That is an understatement, but it is the simplest way I can put it."

Case Study · Family Conversation Series

The challenge

A Thai family with an elderly parent and three adult children, two of whom lived outside Chiang Mai, had never discussed where documents were kept or what the parent's wishes were for how things should be handled. The subject felt difficult to raise directly and had been avoided for some years.

What we did

We ran the Family Conversation Series across four sessions, with the parent and the local child attending all four, and the two others joining remotely for the third. Sessions were conducted in Thai and English. We provided printed guides for all five participants and facilitated the conversations so that they remained focused and calm.

What changed

All three children had a shared understanding of their parent's records for the first time. The parent reported feeling that a burden had been lifted in having it addressed openly. The printed guides were distributed to all family members including those who had not attended the sessions.

"My brothers finally understand what we have. That mattered more than I expected."
